Dbateman,
You won't find a Winchester BB94 in 45/70 they never made one. But any Winchester Big Bore is worth looking for. I have a Winchester Timber 444 Marlin and love the gun. Great handling and very accurate. Use the search function and you will find more forum member infos about BB94 in 444 Marlin.

There is a Win. 94 .444 Black Shadow for sale in the classified section. The owner is well known and well thought of around here. Regards, 1886.

Thanks Gary!

It's a great little carbine. Very light and packs a heck of a punch.
There's an article by Paco on this site about the 94BB in .444, give it a read.
One thing Paco mentions. The 94s preferr the heavier bullets. Was getting the best
accuracy w/ the Speer 270 JSP and the Hornady LEverEvoluton 265s.

May just be talking myself into keeeping it :D

Dave - The Winchester Big Bore .45-70, you're thinking of, is most likely a Winchester Big Bore Timber in .450 Marlin - which is a belted .45-70 equivalent.
IIRC, The .444's were made with 20" barrels in the BB's and a 17 1/2" ported bbl in the Timber Carbine - while the .450 Timber was a 17 1/2" barrel only.

If you want an actual .45-70 in a Winchester levergun, you're going to have to get an M1886 ( M-86), due to the .45-70's larger rim diameter.

i have the 94 bb 20" .444 marlin. if you want a gun that handles , carries and points like a shotgun, hits hard enough to stop anything on the planet at 200yards, and weighs under 7 lbs, you can't beat it. shoots 7 shots without reloading as fast as u can work the lever. its' not an 800 yard rifle. why the 94 bigbores never caught on is a big mystery to me. grownig up, the .348 wcf. was the holy grail of woods rifles were i'm from. the '356 duplicates it and the .444 exceeds it, in a shorter, lighter, gun. if u find one, BUY IT.

Big Bore 444 is great! One of the best - nothing quite like it.

:D Chub Eastman (from Nosler bullets) thinks VERY highly of the .444 Black Shadow version. These next bits of info come from an article he wrote that's in the Rifle Magazine's "The Legacy of Leverguns". He used it on a feral donkey culling hunt in Austrailia's Northern Territory. The load he used was 50.5 grains of Accurate XMR-2015, Remington nickel plated case, Winchester Large Rifle primer and a 250 Nosler Partition HG bullet. He said the performance was spectacular at 70-125 yards on those animals up to 600 lbs.

I myself have killed deer with a borrowed .444 Marlin Lever and they put deer down right now with the 265 grain Remington bullets. I would own one if I didn't already have a 45-70.

Thanks, Tom

Paco also thinks highly of it - though many new members won't have read his posts.

I read Paco's article about the Winchester in .444 Marlin. Why didn't he write it before I bought my Marlin?? Oh, yeah--when I bought it, Winchester didn't yet make a .444......

Save yourself the hassle of finding one of the Winchesters !

Get a Marlin in 444 , 450 or 45-70 !

I wouldn't lie to you

I already have no less then ELEVEN 444's , THREE 450's and SIX 45-70's all but my H&R Handi Rifle were made by Marlin ! And Marlin owned H&R at the time I purchased the Handi Rifle :D
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !

Once upon a time in the west... A feller in Utah who claimed to be some sort of Gee-Whizz gunsmith was rebarreling Winchester '94s to Frank Barnes's .458 American, aka .458 X 2".

Pre-historic .450 Marlin, perhaps...???
