OK, we've beat the primer questions to death on this forum, but I have a specific question for those who use 2400 powder in the .45 Colt.
Load:
Case: Winchester - usually but now I'm out of fresh ones
Primer: Winchester WLP
Powder: Alliant 2400 18.5grs
Bullet: Lyman 454424, 265gr K-SWC cast from WW.
Alright I normally use Winchester WLP primers with this load. Although I have not fired a lot of it I've found it works very good and is accurate from my 7.5" OM BH.
I have not tried this load with Federal 150 primers.
My time is running short for loading and practicing. As a matter of fact I'm gonna be lucky to make one outdoor range trip before next February. I'm trying for more though.
For those who have used these two primers, what difference might I experience with the above load if I switch from the Win to the Fed primers?

Pressure wise they'll be close. While I've not used that load, IME accuracy can go either way when switching between the two......depending on the firearm. I have two identical Win 94s and one likes the Win primers and the other likes the CCIs. The difference in group size is less than 1/2", but provable.
Kind regards,
Tycer

About the only difference I ran into when using those federals was they seem to be just a tad larger in diameter and were a touch harder to seat. Other than that things seemed the same.

Re: OT, sorta: Primer question for 2400 powder
Over the years I've found that Federal primers are more sensitive, and the cups a bit softer so they don't need as heavy a hammer fall to pop.
On the other hand, the Winchester primers are supposed to be a bit hotter.
So, do I stick with supposed to be hotter, or easier pop? That was my question when I posted this. I suppose I should just load some up with the Federal primers and see what happens.
You know what? I'll bet the go bang ......
