HELP: Marble's Tang Peep Sight Question's.

Post by cshold »

Thinking about purchasing the following from Midway USA
.
Are these the proper parts for the Browning B-92 pre tang safety?

Marble's Tang Peep Sight Browning 53, 65, 1892 Steel Blue Product #: 114804

Marble's Improved Tang Peep Sight Screw Set #7 Blue Product #: 915087

"HELP": What Marble's front sight would go with this Tang Sight??

Will I need to remove the existing rear sight? If so what blank will I need?

I have several Marlble's tang sights, but they are on Marlins. I have found that if you have the slightest doubt, call or email the Brownell's tech support people, you will get a fast and accurate answer. Might as well order a dovetail blank while you are at it, you will likely want to remove the rear sight.

Here is the chart from Midway.
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.e ... mid=239307
Looks like the 114804 is the standard tang sight for Browning W/O tang safety and should use the 915087 screw set. If in doubt,
Call Midway ,they will be glad to sort it out for you.
I am going to order one tomarrow for my new Uberti 73 .32-20 . :D

Order this and you'll have the front sight covered.

Why would you need a new front sight with a tang sight? The range of adjustment is such that it should not be necessary.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Thanks much guy’s :)

Hobie,
The reason I was thinking I needed to change the front site is
do to reading Jeff Quinn’s article on the Marble’s tang sight.
http://www.gunblast.com/Marbles.htm

This is my first time changing out gun sights.

So sounds like the safest thing to do is contact Midway or Brownell's
By phone. :)

If you are referring to his picture with a "taller fiber optic sight", that is not required at all. It will make the front sight more visible in low light but that's it.

If do prefer the Marbles 1/16" brass bead front sights for my apertures though. I place the bead "on" the spot that I want the bullet to impact - just natural to me. But the stock blade will do just fine as well and use a 6 o'clock hold.

If you plan to use the tang sight exclusively, then remove the rear barrel sight and fill the slot with any commercial slot filler blank(some fitting/filing may be necessary) or cut down an old long leaf rear sight and file it to make a fancy filler blank. The dovetail slot is a standard 3/8" slot.

If you would like to use a barrel sight for short range/quick shots, and the tang for long rang/deliberate shooting, then switch out the rear barrel sight for a folder, and sight it in for 50 to 75 yards, then fold it to zero the tang sight for a longer distance, like 125-150 yards.

In the example above, both sights are zeroed with a front sight of the issued height - you may or may not want to change the front sight material to a material more to your liking.

You may find out that wanting to change the front sight on a B-92 and actually being able to do it are two different things.
The front sight on my 1975 gun was brazed to the barrel, and I had to file the short issue post off flush with the top of the square sight base, then slot it fore 'n aft for a pinned-in sight blade, that I made by grinding down & filing a dovetail-type sight of an appropriate height I happened to have on hand.

Wow, I just tried to find the correct sight for you there at Midway and it just wouldn't let me browse.

Basically, a .335" height would be good - 1/16" brass bead - you could call them and ask which ones are appropriate for Winchester type leveractions...

I buy mine from Brownells because I get a dealer discount (C&R collector). And its easier to find the ones you need!

Nothing against Midway - just ordered some stuff from them today.

Oh, and I like Marble's sight blanks too - they are steel and rounded on the top - very nice. Remove the old sight by tapping it to the right as you normally hold the rifle and place the sight blank in right to left - gunsmith rule - always in and out from the right - this keeps the dovetail slot tight.

Note : The Marbles sight slot blanks have a tapered dovetail to them marked by a dot (dent) on the bottom to show which end goes in first.
It is easy to tell if you are trying to put it in backwards,it will be almost impossible to get started. :D
