We just returned from a trip to the Big Island, and noticed that Spam is still quite popular around there. Lots of it on market shelves.

Mike, too bad you didn't get a pig hunt in while there, they are plentiful there.
Re: Spambots Beware!
One day, we took the "Saddle Road" from soggy Hilo to sunny Kailua and saw lots of pigs, goats and turkeys. Man, them's the scrawniest birds I have ever seen. Big open hunting area up there, too. Maybe next time, though. We stayed at a family member's house above Kailua. Picked and ate beautiful papayas and starfruit every morning for breakfast.

Mike, next time bring a levergun, the public lands on Big Island have very good hunting with low pressure. Not to many Hawaiians hunt Turkey so they are are very plentiful too. I have a friend in Kona who lives in a upper scale neighborhood and the whole neighborhood gets invaded by a heard of pigs on a regular basis and in the morning their lawns look roto-tilled.

Same here, Gi. Not only pigs, but a few goats as well. I had to get a danged mongoose out of the service porch because it came in to eat the cat's food. They sure are cheeky little buggers. I heard turkey's gobbling nearly every morning, along with the noisy doves and mynas. At daybreak, the lovely "serenades" would begin.
I saw the signs that told of the hunter areas. Lotta pheasants up there, too. Some weird little ones that I'm not familiar with. Maybe Kalij, but common up on Maunea Kea. Also saw frankolin and valley quail.
