Total lack of gun safety on the guys part. Gun in boat when not being used should be cleared and made safe, not left loaded.

Glad he's not upset with the dog, the incident was his own darn fault.

My question is, was it really an accident. Perhaps the dog had it in for him?

Here's the text: I didn't see any pics.

Man recovering after being shot by his dog

Email this Story

Nov 24, 7:57 PM (ET)

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A man who was accidentally shot by a 12-gauge shotgun on Saturday after his dog jumped into a boat is recovering. Matthew Marcum's legs and buttocks were injured in the bizarre incident and he was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center in Portland.

Marcum's father, Henry, said his 23-year-old son was about to tie up an 11-foot open aluminum boat, when his 3-year-old Labrador, Drake, jumped into the boat.

Matthew Marcum said his dog, Drake, is a good dog and he isn't upset with him.
-------------------

Well, the safety could have been bumped off - but why was there a round in the chamber while he was fiddling around?

And I bet his friends are really dogging him about this incident

Reminds me of the old Warner Brothers cartoon about "Two go out, but only one comes back..."

We think the dog's getting a bum rap - he can't voice a defense so we only hear one side of the inccident from the injured party who might really have been the one guilty of a negligent discharge.

We remember an urban legend of a pet snake (?pet snake?) shot its owner - just legend.

Yep - we all like Charlie Russell and "In Without Knocking" is high on the list. My personal favorite is "Meat's Not Meat Until It's In The Pan" showing the hunter looking at his game he just shot on a ledge below him just out of reach - shown in this picture.

The brindle is female and lives up to her common designation commonly used for her sex in dogs (the "B" word) when dealing with her fawn brother - on forums it has to be "dogess". She owns the house - at least in her opinion.

She was registered as "Farpoint In Charge" so I guess she had an attitude from birth. With people though, she is the sweetest dog in the world - with the possible exception of her brother. He was the runt of the litter but, I think in a litter of 10 puppies and only 8 nipples for food, he just wasn't aggressive enough to get his share. He is now the largest in his litter and weighed in at 249# in the vet's office in October while she was a dainty feminine 205#.

Here is the latest shot I have of him just after the visit to the vet and his ribs can be counted easily so you can see he isn't obese - just a BIG lovable puppy who loves everybody he meets.

Image

Their only defense plan other than their size and bark is "Drown'em in Drool" - we get "slingers" even on the ceiling.

Do you take those for a walk, or do you ride them? :D

We showed Mastiffs in the past and have many titles - mostly in obedience - these two have been obeddience trained since we got them at 11 weeks of age and are well trained and easily controlled on leash -

Image

Mastiffs aren't resistant to training but do things at their speed. Given the "sit" command, a Border Collie's butt hits the ground in the blink of an eye whereas that's a five step maneuver for a Mastiff. :)

I had a big brindle male who the entire state knew and would speak to him - even when he was in the ring and his call name wasn't the same name in the show catalogue.

Pretty alert, too
