BlackHawk Repair Question

BlackHawk Repair Question
My .357 50th Ann. BlackHawk does not lock up with the hammer down. With hammer down it is loose and sloppy and the cyl WILL TURN backwards a half inch or less. It locks up tight when cocked. Can I fix this? Should I even try? And if I could, what would I look for? I've always thought it didn't shoot consistant and this is prolly why....Thanks

IIRC, that is how they are supposed to work. Allows one to flip open the loading gate and start loading without pulling back the hammer at all. New-fangled new model stuff - I don't have one, so I am not sure. Try the loading gate and see if you can load with the hammer all the way down.

Take the grip frame off and examine the plunger and spring there in the trigger guard to make sure it is free to push up on the bolt.

There is something amiss. The cylinder should lock up with the hammer back and stay that way while it falls forward and once dropped. It will have only very minute play. This is the case with all five of my Single Action Rugers.
Do check all of the springs and such to see if they are gummed up or have something stuck in them.
The cylinder should only move while indexing - cocking the hammer or while the loading gate is open.
If you can't find an obvious cause, you may want to give Ruger a call to get it fixed under warranty.

I know I should send it in, but I'm trying to get comfortable with working on my own...at least in a limited fashion......
