Elk Chronicles TV feature Levergun hunt
This program on the Outdoor Channel features Wayne Van Zwoll using a Winchester 94 (scoped) on a mule deer hunt. It looks like a Big Bore (with crossbolt safety) but I didn't hear mention of the caliber. Wayne shoots a mule deer buck with the rifle and it drops to the shot, stone dead. I had a client with me when it was on and he said "I didn't know anyone hunted with those old guns anymore". When the client left, I gave him the URL for this site. Oh boy......

Good for you Joe! IIRC, the '94 in .30-30 has taken more deer in this country than any other rifle - ever!

Couldn't have been a 30-30 - a 30-30 can't kill a big animal like a mule deer

I'm curious what caliber and load - I bet he was using the new Hornady LE stuff. That'd make sense given its so new.

I had taped this program, and I had a chance to watch it today. The rifle Van Zwoll used to take the mule deer was a model 94 Big Bore, so the cartridge was the .307 Win., .356 Win. or .375 Win. Because the gun wore a scope, it was likely the angle eject version.

I watched that a few weeks back and then again yesterday with my son. It was cool to see someone flying back into that area of Idaho and using a levergun. I've hunted in there for about 30 years and anytime I use a revolver or levergun people look at me like I'm a fool. Even the pilots are wondering where our cased rifles are and then shake their heads when I show 'em our pistols
My son though hunts with me in there with his ever present 270 winchester....
I swear I have been right in that area where they were hunting. The outer was 'Mile high' and I've flown into the Mile High strip and hunted the surrounding country where they were!
BEAUTIFUL beautiful country.
