Rats. I swore off buying a new gun, but this came along . .

Post by Noah Zark »

A SS Marlin 1895 "trapper" of sorts, the Marlin 1895 "SDT:"

Think 16.25" SS Guide Gun without the stupid porting.

All the right parts in all the right places: 16.25" barrel, 37.35" OAL, 7 lbs, 4 rd capacity, Ballard rifling, straight grip gray laminated stock and forend, high-viz orange and green sights, vented recoil pad.

Apparently 1 of 501 made for Davidson's, and they are sold out:

My local pusher remembered my soft touch for 16" leverguns and my passion for the 45-70. The bastidge.

Well, Merry Xmas to me I guess.

I like that one.

I think, if I were to get one of those I'd make two changes.

A: Narrow that pregnant forearm down.

B: Put a receiver sight and a post on it.

My 1895GS with the much hated ports will get trimmed someday soon and after thinning the wood down, I'll have my own 45-70 Trapper.......A buddy did this with his 450M and it's a decent reduction in heard noise...... Using 405s or bigger and keeping it powered down make a big difference, too......

Good question, deserves a good answer.

My "want list" is very short, and I've lost interest in going to gun shows because of what they have evolved into. I've seen too many tricked-out $450 SKSs, and $209 cases of 7.62x39. I'm sticking to watching the used racks and display cases at favorite local shops, and just waiting for the right thing to come along.

As for the 1895 STD or SDT or whatever, I'm itching to try a 12 grs of Unique-type load, or some other cat sneeze/mouse phart loads in this 1895 "Trapper."

Every time I think I'm getting my "want list" down to size, I see something else that strikes my fancy!!!
