third Ruger.

Post by Leverdude »

I got another one.
I'm done now until after the holidays tho. No matter what anybody says.

Was just going to buy a box of primers, small pistol magnums. Cost me $30 by the way.

Anyhow since its a gun store they had guns there. I'v been kinda looking for a Blackhawk 44 but the ones he had didn't rock my world. He had a stainless 5.5" & a 5.5 blued one thats been drug around alot.
I moved on over & on the end there was a few Smiths & one lonely blued 7.5" Redhawk that looks about new. I never really looked at one close up before but it sure seems beefy & it pointed nice.
So I offered him $50 under the tag & got it. :D
Looking around $400 seems a decent price for this thing I think. What do you think? Did I overpay?
Excuse the last pic, the gun was oily & the flash brought out every bit of dust.

Need to load some ammo up for it.
I put a box of PMC 180 grain HP's thru it & a few factory Hornady 240 gr XTP's. Not bad at all to shoot either of them tho the 180's sure barked. I like it. My kid likes it. I shoulda took pictures but it was cold & nasty. Shootins ok in the cold but I aint that into fotography.

NICE!
I bought my SS Redhawk back in 1984, it has been a great revolver, locks up & cylinder gap is tight, very accurate too.
Sure like the looks of your blue one.

I had to go look, I paid $340.00 for mine new, but that was 24 years ago, I sure would not sell it for $400.00

Those are good guns. I think Bart Skelton did a 10,000 round report on one. It just got more accurate with time as I recall for more than 7,000 rds.

I'd say you stole it for that price! Congrats.

What do I think...?

I think you say "Honey, you'll never believe it, but they had a special deal down at the gun store - If you bought a box of primers, you could get this here gun for only $30 more. (Don't tell her the primers were $400! )

Good deal, with or without the primers.

Leverdude, Great buy. You can never have enough Ruger revolvers! I have to Redhawks and will never sell them.

Thanks guys.
I just came up from prepping brass for it. Got a hundred primed cases waiting in the loading block.

Whats a good load for a 240 Gr Rem?
I'm going to dump 23 grains of 296 under it & see what happens. I'v got a couple 44 rifles but never played much with them yet.

Lil'gun looks promising too.

My favorite is 24.2 gr of H110 with a 240 gr JSP

I'd like a SS 5.5 model in .45lc. That one you got there is really nice and for a good price too. Enjoy! :D

I don't know why, but to me, the barrel on a blued Redhawk always looks shorter than the same length barrel on a stainless Redhawk. Some strange visual effect or something about the photos or something just makes them appear different to me.
