Early Winchester 94 rear sight experts please
I saw unusual to me rear sight on a 1905-1906 circa M94 .32 Special today. The rifle featured a 26" half oct. half round barrel. Rifle was pretty straight forward other than the barrel and that rear sight. The sight was a Winchester sight as it was clearly marked and it was clearly marked for the 32 Spec. It had a series of graduations on the side and was marked 50yrds and 100yrds. It was protected by what looked like rabbit ears on each side. No pics as the rifle is not mine but I might remedy that situation. I was told the sight is highly coveted by Winnie collectors. Please help. Thanks, 1886.

If it's the one I think your talking about it was only made for the 32 special. Smokeless I think appears on the sight also.1886 wrote:I saw unusual to me rear sight on a 1905-1906 circa M94 .32 Special today. The rifle featured a 26" half oct. half round barrel. Re: Early Winchester 94 rear sight experts please
I have no idea what is going on, but most of my replies go unposted, despite the "successful posting" message appearing. Weird.
The sight marked Smokeless .32 WS M'94 was first offered in 1902. It was a $7. option and could be ordered for any 1894 rifle, but most often is seen on the .32 Specials. The Smokeless sight was not catalogued after the early '20s and today brings a small premium over the standard sporting sights that were offered on the '94.

Re: Early Winchester 94 rear sight experts please
It would seem that this sight was referred to as the smokeless sight.32 W.S. Yes?. So far I can only find it offered for the .32 Special. At least every specimen that I have seen on the web was marked for the .32 and was on a .32 chambered gun. 1886.
Re: Early Winchester 94 rear sight experts please
I imagine at the time, if someone really wanted one they would have sold and put on any gun they wanted it on. I guess I've only seen them on 32 specials, but could they be on another gun1886 wrote:It would seem that this sight was referred to as the smokeless sight.32 W.S. Yes?. Still haven't found an actual # for the sight either.

Re: Early Winchester 94 rear sight experts please
The sight was not numbered until after it was dropped from the catalogue in 1920. For several years after that it was called the 64A until supplies ran out, but it was never a popular item to begin with. My original statement of it being a $7 option was in error, the 1902 cost was $3. Although marked .32, the sight was available for both smokeless andf BP '94s.

Re: Early Winchester 94 rear sight experts please
Thanks for all of the help but I am still unsure of the nomenclature. Was it called the .32 W.S. smokeless sight? 1886.
