More hogs???
Question for you Florida Levergunners... I travel all over the state on the big truck delivering groceries. One thing I have that some of you might not is a higher vantage point. In place after place I see more and more hogs and evidence of their presence.
Is it just me or are y'all noticing this as well?
Last Monday night I was coming back from Miami northbound on hwy 27 just south of Palmdale and saw a huge one, about 350 lbs just in time before I hit it.
Tuesday on Hwy 37 south of Mulberry where I see the shoulders all rooted up all the time I saw one out looking for food.
Yesterday on I-95, YES I-95 at a rest area ( about mile marker 101) I was pulling into there were 6-8 little porkers about 18" long running around on the apron of the entrance ramp to the rest area.
I don't know if I'm just looking for them or if there really are a lot more than there used to be. The things really can be a pest ya know.
Do y'all see them in your area as well?

Re: More hogs???
I don't know about now but when I left Florida in 1966 and moved to Tenn there was a lot of them then in southeast Florida.

Re: More hogs???
I went to the range last weekend with my 14 year old. We ripped through all of our 22 LR and 22 Mag ammo and then packed up and headed out. As we left the gate to the private range and turned onto the long private drive back to a county road, 5 hogs wandered out in front of us. A boar, a sow, and three piglets. The little ones shot into the bush quickly while the sow trotted over to where they went in. However, the boar stopped in the middle of the road and stared at the front of my Expedition. He then turned and trotted down the middle of the private drive at about 2mph. I would bob to move around and he would bob, I would weave and he would weave. This went on for about 1/2 mile until he finally decided to get out of the road.
Near the end, my kid asked me how I knew it was the male hog.
Finally, I pointed out to him that those two round things swaying back and forth in front of us were the hogs testicles and that if we had any more 22 Mag handy I would gladly relieve him of one of them to get him out of the road.
The hogs are everywhere down here in Central Florida is seems ... with attitude no less.

Re: More hogs???
I actually have not seen as many this year, but things change so much. The otherside of the county may be flooded with them.

Yeah, I know. He was about 80lbs. The sow about 50lbs. I had the third row seat out and the liner in place as well. I really fell short on that one ... total slacker here.RIHMFIRE wrote:That pedal on the right is the gas....you should have nailed it and had a BBQ

Re: More hogs???
We don't have hogs in Az.
So here is a dumb question
Do you need a license?
If they are feral pests, why?

Re: More hogs???
No not if they're on your property but as far as the state in concerned if you're killin them you must be huntin. It's a cheap price to pay. They're listed as "no closed season" unless you're in a Wildlife Management Area, then local rules apply.
It just seems like I'm seeing more and more of them all the time.

Re: More hogs???
I know the orange groves were full of them in 1973 when I left fla. I guess they thought the gators would thin them out
