NIN Meetup/Shoot AAR

Post by Old Ironsights »

Well, JReed + kids, Mokwaw & I had a right nice littke shoot today. Weather wasn't too bad either. Shot at my Gong at 100, clocked some loads over the chrony, and blew up some clay pigeons.

Interesting anecdote... My C358180RF 16gr Lilgun 1800+fps loads still clock out at 1697fps... out of a 2.5" SP101! :o

I've met or talked with several folks from the forum, never a bad one! How's that for any organization? :D Notice everyone, 'cept maybe Bryan, had a smile on their face. :D

Looks like y'all had a good day indeed!

Man, it looks cold there. I have gotten really spoiled living in Texas... we finally got a cold spell - was in the high 60's today...

Nice pics and nice range. Does look a bit frosty though!

O.I. I just had a similar experience with Lil'Gun out of a 2 3/4" barrel. Lost less than 100 fps when compared to a 7" barrrel. Same exact load (not in 357 though). I'll have a full review later!

And some folks say I shoot some bloody godawful loads in my M-640!!

Hottest I've ever had from my 2 1/8" M-640 was some CorBon 125 gr. JHP's at 1265 fps!

Yeah that Howda was fun :D (except for having a healing broken thumb  )
It wasnt that cold it was about 35.
It was a great time my youngest Evan loved shooting my 94 trapper in .45colt. I had brought a case of clay pigeons for the boys to shoot up and they had fun breaking them up. Mokwaw pulled out one of those Evil Black Rifles and gave us a good rapid fire demo. And both Brian and I had fun lobbing lead out of my rolling block.

This was the second time I have been out shooting with members here and it has always been a great time. Good guns and good company. The rest of you all need to start having your own get togethers who knows next time I transfer it might be coming to an area near you. I look forward to the next Hoosier meet up it should be a blast  :)

NIN Hoosier Meetups can be official or completely at random. Since I have keys & 365 daylight access to the range all anyone has to do is PM me and coordination can commense.

EDIT: This means YOU Griff... Knox is only 36mi from MC/I-80/I-94... You can park the truck for a few hours.

Cant beat that deal. :D We will have to do it again in the late spring when it warms up. Next time we will have to scrounge up a grill and some burgers and make a full long day of it.

The grill easy. I have a nice, small gas one that I forgot to bring this time... not like I will need the 5gal of boiling water when it's warm

O.I. truth be told, I've been in the same weather and far worse (adding in wind chill) on a motorcycle more than once, so I hear what your saying! :)

I would have glady "suffered" to be with you guys if you weren't so far away.

And I probably would have camped out in my tent too! Been there and done that as well. My tent and sleeping bag is set up for that.

Not to say I don't respect how cold it is either. You guys are troopers, and I respect those of you who showed up!

Glad to hear the Marines aren't getting "whimpy!"  Just kidding, J.R.! :P

Well, we can add my new Enfield that I get to take home tomorrow to the list. What are you doing the 3rd week of August next year? Any chance you could get to the FoBD Range in Hotchkiss, CO that weekend from Indy? I expect a good turn-out next year, and your rolling block in 45-70 (isn't it) would do well providing it has enough rear sight. If not, we will share our rifles with you. You would be most welcome.

Unfortunatly I can tell you now I will be working school will be starting back up that time of year and that is when we are heavy into contacting High School seniors.

Yes my roller is 45-70 and I cann't wait to get a chance to get out there to the FoBD range with you all and see how it does but it may be a few years befor I get that chance :( . I will be very interested how your Enfield does at that range. Does it have the Mk1 micrometer sight like mine?

Too Bad. The (retired) Gunny who used to teach the course was well liked but died... and the System Sucks without a strong NCO to back it up. They've been actively discussing cancelling the program... as if these reprobates didn't need at least a little visible dicipline as a exemplar.

I never made it high enough in the Service before being RiFed/FiRed to be able to volunteer... unfortnately.
