My son's levergun success

Post by nemhed »

My youngest son has had a good fall. The first picture is the coyote he shot while we were doing a little scouting back in October. The second is the eight point he just shot. These were both firsts for him, the largest critter he's shot prior to these was a raccoon. Needless to say we are both proud. Now if I could just get my 1894c back from him. :(

Congratulations to you both.

I don't think one needs an excuse to buy another rifle other than desire, but if you needed one for the wife, there it is. But Honey, jr.'s got my rifle now so I need one to replace it. :D

Excellent...! Great way to start him out. Unfortunately, I was much older before I got my first deer. He'll be strutting like a peacock for a week at school..!

:D Excellent way to start the youngster off, Congratulations. We have another potential member! As far as getting the rifle back, forget it...I still have the 22 rifle my dad let me borrow as a youngster. Strut around like your son, you both earned it! Thanks, Tom

He's off to a outstanding start! I'll bet his buttons were a-poppin' off his shirt when he brought home the venison.

It would be a tough call to say , but passing a gun on is probably just a little better feeling than getting a new one for yourself.

Have the best of both flavors, Pass it on and start the hunt for a new one.

Forget about getting the rifle back. I've lost several that way. But what the heck, once I'm gone, the boys will get them all anyway. But it would be nice if they would at least "lend" me my firearms from time to time.

You can probably get it back once he's old enough to move out of the house. That is as long as he doesn't take it with him. :D

Yep - our household rule is you borrow one of dad's guns and get a deer, and it becomes YOUR gun. (Thank goodness IN doesn't allow M1A's to be used for deer, or I'm sure my kids would get me on that one!)

Look at it this way - he gets a gun and some cool memories with it, and YOU get the awful job of heading to the gun store and buying one for yourself to replace it. Heck of a bummer. (That's how I got an excuse to buy my STAINLESS 1894 - I just let my son get a deer with my blued one!)

Besides, wives have to have more sympathy for that kind of a gun buy.

We appreciate all the great comments. He feels like a celebrity now! He's in total agreement about the rifle. Now what I'm going to do is set up a special Nemhed Charity Rifle Fund. I'll only ask for a small, one time donation of $20 from each of you. Is $20 too much to ask to bring so much joy into a young lad's life?   Y'all can PM me for payment arrangements. Seriously though, I don't know if I would just buy another 1894 in 357, "upgrade" to a 44mag, or go for something different like a stainless Puma in 357 (I have a secret jones for a '92 but don't tell my Marlin's). All this planning is going to get thrown out the window next year when my youngest daughter starts deer hunting. :( Why do they have to grow up? Anyway, I guess I should be proud, 2 of my 4 kids are interested in hunting and shooting!
