new guy with questions

Post by two bit okie »

Greetings from the colorado river in AZ. While I am new to this sight, I am a long time member of the ruger forum. Same name.

Here is my question. (s)

I have both a Marling 1894 in 44 mag and a rossi mod 92 in 44 mag. Both rifles do what I want them to. (shoot cowboy actiion targets). The marlin is quite decent looking with it's black walnut stock, but the poor little rossi lookes like it is cheap plastic. The Question is, will aftermarket stocks for the Winchester mod 92 fit the Rossi?? If the answer is no, does anyone know where decent looking wood for the Rossie can be obtained? and if the answer is yes, any recommendations on where to get the stock and forend???

Any input appreciated.

Welcome to the fire two bit okie!

Have you thought about stripping and refinishing the hardwood that is on it now?
I refinished mine a few weeks ago and the wood under that stain they use was pretty nice.

I have two 92 Rossi's and I could care less how they look. As long as they shoot good . I also shoot CAS. I have installed a custom butt cover on my one and am considering doing a brass tack design on the other as well as the butt cover which is leather and has brass studs. CAS rifles take a beating in gun carts, etc. You should see all the dings my 73 Uberti furniture has fore & aft.

There is some pretty nice wood under that stain Rossi use's, strip it and find out.

Sounds like your stock must have been cut from THE ugly tree :D

Steve of Steves Guns is a member here"Nate Kiowa Jones" he is a Model 92 wizard. you might send him an e-mail, if any one would know a source of new stocks and what will swap with others Steve would.

two bit okie,

The previous owner stripped the finish off of the wood of my Rossi:

He put a Tru-Oil finish right over the bare wood. The color & shading has grown on me. :D
