I think I may have stumbled onto what I think is a reasonable deal on a levergun to add to the collection. I had the gun store hold it for me. The rifle is a SS Rossi/Navy Arms M-92 in 44-40.It has a 19 1/2 or 20 in hex. bbl, full mag tube, crescent buttplate, nice walnut stock, full buckhorn sight and is unfired. The fellow won the rifle in a raffle and traded it in on something he could use because" the ammo was hard to find and to expensive and it was a lever gun" The price is $300.00 out the door. What do you think ????????? I forgot to copy the SN, I don't have the date of manuf. Do any of you know if this rifle has a .426 or a .429 in.dia. bbl or can .429 in. dia.bullets be used in this rifle ? Any reccomended loads for the 44-40? This may be a keeper!!!!
UPDATE I got your'alls message,I ran back back to the gun shop this morning(11-14) and put the rifle in layaway. I gave myself an early Christmas. Now I need to start getting geared up to reload the little beauty.
NKJones-Thanks for the info on the bbl. dia. Based on .429 bbl, I guess the lighter 200gr and under 44 Mag bullets should shoot OK in this rifle.Would this be a correct assumption? My comment on the hex bbl is incorrect. It is a OCT. bbl. My head was out to lunch

That gun is no longer imported. I know folks that would give you $600 for it. EMF imported a stainless oct Rossi 92 in 44-40 for awhile but dropped them.
