OT - Something to cheer Ji up!

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Ji -

Hope you are well on the road to full recovery. I thought my son (Y2K) and my annual Halloween ritual might cheer you up a bit - especially considering your current avatar!

Each year we carve the pumpkins - like many other folks. Here were are motley assortment this year:

As you can see, by November 5th when these pictures were taken, the pumpkins had started to go. Unlike most folks though, we have a ritual we do when it is time to toss the Jack-O-Lanterns. We take out a samuari sword and "execute" the suckers!

Here is Ysabel Kid's Kid in action:

The set-up (that is his sword):

And the score:

Okay, the last one was staged - after I cut the second pumpkin. # 1 was a bit too squishy and my son cut about half-way though it before launching what was left of it against the wall to our house!

I then demonstrated the underhand back-slash cut, which lopped the second pumpkin in half pretty neatly.

He's getting there! :D

And a most honorable end to the artwork.

We've done the same to snowman. No point letting them suffer a slow, melting death.

Not that we get many opportunities to build snowman in South Carolina!

Looks like much fun for YKK. I want to do that just once...a sharp two handed Claymore and a room full of watermelons! Maybe some bagpipes playing in the background. :P :)

Hmmm... now you've got me thinking about testing some of the other swords hanging in my office - including the Claymore! Still, my absolute favorite is the katana-style blade. These will cut through the pumpkin like it is not even there!

May have to try the cavalry saber next year - that's the one (the picture of it, anyway) that started the Jeremy sword drive last year! :D

Glad you finally picked up on my name for the kid. (Kid Y2K) - took long enough. I thought I was going to have to start posting pics of pretty girls again and hear from Hobie. 8)

OS, you know I'm a slow learner! I like the "Y2K" moniker for my son as well, though I still need to explain it to most folks here! :D
