November 2008 National Geographic

Post by Bullet Bob »

For people who like the outdoors, the 11/2008 issue of National Geographic is exceptional in my opinion. One article deals with our need for darkness, and the problems with light pollution, it was interesting to me at least.

There were some other good articles, but the one on a wilderness area in Canada nearly the size of Maine was really great. The lead person who served as a guide for the author in places where large and fierce animals might never have seen man - did he carry a magnum? A controlled round feed action?

NO! A BLR in .308. I guess if you can shoot, and base your decisions on experience instead of magazine articles. it's enough. The area described is unbelievable, I thought some of you might like it.

Reckon that would be some country to see.

I'd be perfectly comfortable with my 336 in 356 Winchester, or my 95 in 45-70 with some medium loads with 400 gr. hard cast bullets.

Interesting; thanks for the heads-up on this. I am a fan of the .308 BLR. I had thought of it as a Lower 48 rifle, but it looks like it may not be useless up North.
