Semi OT More on the 470 and cast

Post by TedH »

Got back to the range today with 5 more loads to try. Found a winner with my 500 gr. cast bullets and 86.0 gr. of RL15 with 4 gr. poly-fiber filler. Didn't set up the chrono but they should be a bit over 2100 fps. Now to just make a slight sight adjustment and I'll be very satisfied.

This was shot at 55 yards, two shots from each barrel.

Also, those PAST recoil shields that you strap on your shoulder, easily worth their weight in gold when shooting these big boomers. I shot 20 rounds of full power 470 Nitros off the bench today and felt like I could have kept going all day. An amazing difference.

It's not the shooting itself that I was tickled with, but the fact that I was able to come up with a full power cast bullet load that will regulate. I wasn't sure it could be done, but somehow between playing with alloy, fillers and powders I found a good combo. Believe me, there were plenty of targets that went in the trash before anyone could see them. :D
