So, I've been spending the last week or so getting out all my reloading gear and setting it up in the new house. Got my Dillon and my Rock-Chucker mounted on my garage workbench.
I have quite a bit of ammo loaded for the pistols, maybe 500 various .45 Colts, maybe half are 200-grain cowboy level loads left over from SASS, the rest are 255 Keiths and a few 250 XTP's.
Quite a bit .44 mag and .45 acp left over from last year as well, so I decided to get my .270's and my .45 Colt rifle loads going.
I needed some rifle primers so I headed over to Dunlop's...wow, $33.00 a brick, up almost ten dollars from last year ! I still have five hundred Win LPP's from last year plus an unopened brick of Federal LPP's, so I won't have to 'bite the bullet' for a while...
So I set up the Dillon for .45 Colt. 300 grain GC over 24 Gr of H110. Rolled fifty for my 92 Rossi's. Today I'm gonna work up some .45 ACP loads for my M22, I'm thinking of 7 gr of Unique under a Tru-Cast 255 SWC. And then there's the .270. I have some 140 Sierra Spitzers and some 150 Ballistic Tips and a couple of dozen Nosler Partitions in the same weight.
I have trouble getting 150's to feed throguh my Mauser carbine. I have to keep the OAL length kinda short or the nose bungs up on the feed ramp. Hopefully the 140's will be short enough to feed fine.
As an aside, the gun shop was packed, busier then I've ever seen, even with two weeks until gun season opens for deer. My wife was stunned, and she lamented the fact that we didn't have enough spare change to allow purchasing some new firearms. We sold my HBAR, M14 and M1 Garand to help pay for our move up here, and with our new president-elect promising 'sensible' gun laws my wife opined that 'we'd better try and get some semi-auto's while we can'. Hopefully my x-mas bonus will allow the purchase of an AR or two. In the meantime, like I said, I'm gonna load up as much ammunition as I can, you never know when that's going to get 'restricted' as well. I wonder if reloading supplies are going to see a run just like the semi-auto rifles.
Spent the day reloading...

Re: Spent the day reloading...
Good for you. I've been working on some realoading and also stocking up on components. My problem is that I have too many different calibers. Though, I've focused my milsurp and stocking ammo on mostly 6 different military type calibers...
I think the run on ammo and components will be next as people look at their new AR, AK, etc. and think "wonder how much ammo I should have for this?"
Mags will go crazy at the same time if they aren't already...
I say get what you want/need now as there may be a pretty good spell of out of stock suppliers... and God knows what our new dear leader and his accomplises in the house and senate will deal out soon.

I've been working on this for a while. You can bet they will tax us out of reloading. That seems to be their "new" method to ensure that we can't while they can say they haven't banned firearms (or whatever).

I am glad I have downsized in number of calibers to reload for. 38/357, .45acp, 30-30, 45-70
Ive been buying .22lr ammo like crazy, and all the primers I need for the above, as well as bullets. I am sure I have enough to last me two election terms or one good battle!!!

Re: Spent the day reloading...
I just calculated that I need to buy another 5 8lb kegs of 2400 if I want to use all of the primers I have...
(56lb x 7000gr)/21,000primers = 18.6gr (av load between .357 & .45-70)...
I don't have another $530 for powder.

Re: Spent the day reloading...
I'm waiting on UPS to deliver a package from Powder Valley today. Friday I received my packages from Midway, & Brass World. I'll mostly be working up 45 acp loads for now. I have about 500 rounds of all my other calibers loaded and some spare componets for some of those in reserve.

Note that in some localities fire code limits you to 10,000 primers per residential unit, and 50 lbs of powder. I think over 20 lbs of powder requires a specific storage cabinet.Old Ironsights wrote: (56lb x 7000gr)/21,000primers = 18.6gr (av load between .357 & .45-70)...I don't have another $530 for powder.
Not that I like or always agree with these type rules, but I'm sure that the alphabet agency people love to cite violators. When I had 12,000 primers I just kept about half them at a friends house who didn't reload but had a safe storage area for them. I was actually trying to get him to start reloading, and loaned him an RCBS press and dies, so I had two purposes! He never got into reloading, though.

I live in an unincorporated "County Island"... so I play by "rural" rules.
But I also have a small fire/explosion powder magazine that gives me a higher "legal" limit. (all NFPA coded compliant...)
