Winchester 94 : Tang Markings
When did Winchester stop marking the top tangs on the Model 94 ? Have a 1940 rifle that says Winchester on tang, and just bought a 1949 era 32 Spl. serial # 19025xx that has no markings whatever on top tang. Hope it is suppossed to be that way !!!

Pre-war vs. post-war IIRC. Joe has written a neat post, just can't find it right now!

I'm hoping that is the right answer . If you can find a thread on this it would be great. Bought this rifle at todays' OGCA show and it is " as NIB " minus box, came from an estate sale in Hamilton OH and is perfect . Barrel is mirror bright, finish is actually a nice polished blue, bolt face looks like it never had a round chambered. Just a plain jane, nothing special, but perfect.!!Hobie wrote:Pre-war vs. post-war IIRC. Joe has written a neat post, just can't find it right now!

Your 1940 rifle is one of the last to be marked (and also d&t for a tang sight) These rifles bring a small premium over later issues---------Sixgun

Welcome to the Forum, Signut.
The last Model 94 serial number to have the Winchester tang logo was approximately 1,350,000.
Congrats...your 32WS Model 94 is a real find!

All right, now ya'll tell me how old my "1941" Winchester 94 30wcf is. From the charts I looked at I thought it was a 1941. The tang is marked " Winchester, trade mark, made in USA "serial number 12708xx.
