I am considering getting a lever .22 LR.
The Henry Frontier model looks really nice. Anyone have one of these? Pros/Cons?

Re: Henry Frontier model
Dennis,
It is an upgraded version of the "standard" model H001. It has dovetailed front & rear sights. It is a little heavier than the round-barreled models. The guts are the same as the other Henry rimfire leverguns. It should be just as smooooth & reliable as the standard model. You should have no worries with it. My H001L has somewhere around 6,000 rounds through it, and it is flawless.
Now, some people will tell you not to buy it, because of its aluminum/ zamac receiver. Have a look at how well this 30-odd-year-old Ithaca version has held up, and the price someone paid for it:

Re: Henry Frontier model
Henry .22 leverguns are arguably the best "bang for your buck" available new, today.
As to the Frontier Model (H001T), it falls squarely between the heavier, glossier (and more expensive) Golden Boy and the lighter, shorter, less expensive Standard (H001).
Frontier pluses: Octagon barrel, metal barrel bands (ILO plastic), standard dovetailed barrel open sights (the H001 has one-piece front sight/barrel band made of plastic).
Frontier Minuses: Not many - Price runs close to 2X that of a standard H001; due to the longer, octagon barrel, it may be heavier than desired (but still lighter than a GB). You might want to handle one B4 buying.
I chose to buy a standard H001, and peep it - but all are scopable (an abomination IMHO).

Re: Henry Frontier model
I whole heartedly agree with that!!but all are scopable (an abomination IMHO).
I actually like a little more weight, it helps my shakey old body hold steadier. I personally don't like the GB (if it was solid "brass" like the BB, it would be ok but the cover just turns me off). I have a Marlin 1894 Cowboy in .44 and the Frontier would be a nice addition, IMO. I have handled a standard before but I really like the "upgraded" look of the Frontier. Did you have to change the front blade when you switched to the peep? I've been thinking about replacing the buckhorn on my Marlin (and if I do, I'd probably change the Henry also if I do get one).
As far as the make up of the receiver, I really don't think I will wear it out (or even the person that gets it after me). I always bring my guns home after a shooting session and do a clean & lube. I have a couple of handguns with aluminum frames and after initial break in they show no more wear with 1,000s of rounds through. I know a handgun slide slamming back will have more adverse affect than the workings of a lever gun.
Re: Henry Frontier model
ALL Henry rimfires use the alloy receiver cover, some painted, some plated - the Frontier model included.
The actual receiver is under that.
BTW - A few gents, over on http://www.rimfirecentral.com have refinished their covers in a very attractive manner, including a silver/pickling and a faux color case hardening.
I didn't want to, or have to, change out my front sight - which is why I used that extremely low peep ILO a higher clip-on (scope grooves) or side mount (drill/tap side) model receiver sight.
With the Frontier, if a front sight height change is needed, it's a piece of cake, due to the "normal" dovetail-type front sight on that model being easily replaceable with whatever (fiber-optic/gold bead/ivory bead/etc) from Midway or Brownells.

Re: Henry Frontier model
Thanks for clearing that up for me. There is still something about trying to make the receiver look like it is made of brass that turns me off.ALL Henry rimfires use the alloy receiver cover, some painted, some plated - the Frontier model included.
