AWP, I saw and got to handle these at the last SHOTSHOW. They appear to be very well made. However, if memory serves I thought the twist rate for 45 Colt was really weird, like 1 in 13 or something. I don't have the brochure anymore but the statistics are probably available from Pedersoli's website.
The one's from Uberti also looked pretty good but I didn't like that typical Uberti orange color they use for the wood. Yuk.
You might want to check out the ones made by AWA. Mine is still being built. They use Italian parts except for the barrels that are from Green Mountain and use the proper twist of 1 in 32 for 45 Colt. They feature CCH from Turnbull's and are assembled here in the USA.

The .44-40 is the one to get. It seems to me that this is what the originals were designed to handle and the slightly tapered case works better in the action. You can't load them up anyway (the usual reason for hunters to get the .45 Colt).

Hobie, the ones that Russell makes for AWA will handle 45 Colt +P loads no probem. Not so sure about the Pedersoli ones although they most likely could too.
You are probably right about the better feeding of the 44-40 but Russell seems to have the 45 Colt's feeding fine.
