Colorado Muleys with pics

Post by kooz »

Here are some pictures of my Mule deer hunt this week. I have been having a dry spell as far as hunting goes this year and a fellow levergunner and friend from the forum saved me and helped turn this year into a season to remember. Our very own dkmlever was gracious enough to take me into some of his secret spots here on the front range and put me on to a couple animals. This doe was the first to fall on Fri. shot her with a .44spl 3-screw Ruger conversion using 16.5gr/2400 and a home cast 250gr 44-250-K , bullet sailed right thru her like she was a dry pile of leaves and she was dead by the time we walked up to her.

This big guy fell this morning to my .45 Trapper and a 300gr XTP/22.2gr/H-110. This was a quartering away shot at about 75yds. Bullet went in thru the lungs and stopped after hitting the spine, did not exit or break the spine, but put him down hard just the same and blew the lungs out. He was on the move and this was an unsupported shot out in the open, if I would have been carrying anything other than the quick to swing and get on target Trapper I don't think I could have made this shot. Thank you Doug (dkmlever) for a great hunt !

Good for you. Looks like the freezer is going to be pretty full. One with a revolver and the other with a levergun. Doesn't get any better to me than that.

Now THATS what I call hunting in a true sportsman's way! :D The right guns, the right ammo and the confidence knowing these "outdated" firearms and ammo can still do the job at respectable ranges. Good job----nice looking buck too! :D -------------Sixgun
