OT - wow, guns are selling quick on gunbroker...

Post by O.S.O.K. »

I just sold two of my milsurp rifles that I had listed there. And I'm seeing a lot of bids - much more than normal when I puruse the listings...

And if BHO wins (God forbid) I think this will move to a fevered pitch... we will see everything dry up - ammo, components, rifles and handguns - the high capacity types will go first.

I wonder how many new gun owners there are this year...

My buddy just told me this morning that he tried to get rid of his NIB Stevens .30-06 and none of the local shops wanted it cause business is slow. Hmm, go figure. Maybe that might get them to lower some of their prices. Glad to hear you are getting good luck though.

It's extremely hard to sell hunting rifles this time of year. Everyone has either hunted already, or has a gun in hand to hunt with. Gun dealers are happy to buy hunting rifles in summer or very early fall, but not too keen on buying them in mid-September.

I stopped by the local gun shop yesterday and almost couldn't find a place to park. They were selling everything that wasn't nailed down. They are low on guns, especially EBR's, and handgun ammo. They did a have a pretty nice Rem 750 pump in 30-06 that caught my eye and also a 742 semi-auto in 308.

That 742/308 is handy to have around, with a half dozen 10 shot magazines, very nice.

There was a blurb on radio one day last week about the fact that there were some 700,000 more NICS checks this year, than the same time last year. That's a lot of iron.

Primers, some powder, some ammo hard to find locally. Certain guns are doing very well. My favorites not so much. HOWEVER, I've heard people, even those buying .22 LR bolt guns, say they are buying because of Obama. They think it is a coming thing and not good.
Sincerely,

We have a kid in college and so forth, so I figure in a couple of weeks I'll get rid of several firearms I don't really need that much that I'd always hoped would be a good investment; sounds like the 'scary' EBR ones are what everyone wants to buy these days, and I've become more partial to leverguns overall. Even when the law requires a FFL transfer type sale, the prices have gone up enough to make it at least to where you can sell a 'gently used' firearm for what you bought it new for. Better than trying to sell a used car or used piano!

Slidell, LA gun show was packed on Saturday. Maybe around 700 vehicles in the lot and more overflowing out of it. People were lined up shoulder to shoulder in the aisles. Seemed like a lot of buyers to me, not just lookers. Three others guys were buying from the same dealer that I was at the same time, so we had to stand in line to pay. I took home a Bersa Thunder Plus .380 and a couple hundred rounds of ammo. I didn't quite find what I was looking for, but this was close and the last one there.

The gun retail business is SMOKIN'! My buddy Tom, at Targetmaster was showing me yesterday the lines of people waiting to do NICS. Everything was selling like there was no tomorrow. $1000-$2000 AR-15's and MIA's were gone by the end of the day as were most tactical handguns. And he don't keep 4 or 5 laying around.------------Sixgun

Well, one thing is for certain. If BOH does prevail tomorrow, then I too will take advantage of the situation and sell off some more of my collection. I need the "liquidity" too - to use the venacular of the day...

And interestingly, you can see the "strain" of the situation in that one guy that's buying from me is paying over time with a $100 deposit in so far, and another bid on a rifle and then asked for me to send it to a different address than is on his C&R because he just moved and doens't have the new license yet... both showing a little "despiration" or maybe more like "expediency" in their actions. I of course told the guy that I need to send to the addy on the license (it's illegal to send to a different address) and that I'd give him a few weeks if he'd pay for it... he took me up on it- should only be a couple more weeks until his updated license comes....

The hard part is figuring out which rifles to sell.... :(

Yep, Dimakrats are good for the gun business. Clinton sold more guns than any gun dealer on the planet! What scares me is the lack of a check on BO if they get a majority in both houses. :(
