FOUND the new Henry 30-30's?

Post by 86er »

These were hyped up a bit early last year. Anthony Imperator told Jim Taylor and I that if he had one ready to go we could test it out in Africa in May. They were not ready then but "by the end of the year" was given as a ballpark availability date. Does any have further information?

See my next post for update ....

Gents,

All that I know is that Henry is moving/ has moved their factory to Noo Joisee. Perhap, this could be the cause of the delay.

Why in the hell would a company make a move to such an unfriendly gun state?

They have a dealer locator on their web site - might try that and make a few calls.... are you going for the steel version? I think it looks the best.

ED,

The reason has been stated as lower manufacturing costs.

Weren't they in New York before? Not much of a move from one unfriendly to another!

Believe it or not, NJ is less expensive than NY.

And I just checked Davidsons and they show zero availability - I doubt these have been shipped yet....

Bass Pro was the retailer that got the privilege to be the first to stock them based on the quantity ordered. They have 'em there at $569 introductory price with a $599 regular price that it will go to after X-Mas. The only model the store I visited had was the blue/round barrel (it comes brass/octagon). The WTM fit was perfect, no gaps no proud wood nor recess. The wood was finished to perfection, but somewhat plain. The barrel was struck very well with no visible wrinkle and an even dark blue finish. Action - smooth as silk. The oddity is the tubular loading, like the .22's. A tad on the heavy side but I didn't weigh it or look at the published weight. The front sight is a steel blade dovetailed in featuring a brass bead with a flat surface toward the eye. The rear is a hybrid semi/full buckhorn, steel with steps for elevation. It has a white diamond for indexing. The sights seemed sturdy and very useable. It is D/T for scope bases. The salesman did not know what bases would fit, nor could he find a reference to it in the owners manual. I'm sure a standard weaver two piece with flat bottom will fit - or Henry will have them available direct. It may have been the quietest lever action I have ever used. If you work it slowly it hardly made any noise at all, certainly no more than working a smooth bolt carefully. The butt was slightly concave, just enough to be noticeable with a straight stock. It seem to be just a bit low for scope use but it is hard to tell for sure. It was comfortable but there was something about it I would have to get more used to. Unfortunately I could only spend 5 minutes with it as other customers were waiting at the counter for assistance. I did not expect to see one there and hadn't been prepared to buy it. I was told there will be a delivery of 15 on Monday - so I plan to go back and get one after I attend to some work here and there over the next few weeks. As I find out and discover more I will report accordingly, with photos if I have it outside of the store environment. I must emphasize that the look and feel was VERY good - but it definitely has a different feel than a '94 or 336.

More good news and great customer service. Anthony Imperato himself got back to me today (Sunday!) and said he will send me a 30-30 right after New Year's for testing and evaluation. Hang in there a few more months for the reports.....

As far as I know, there isn't a "name" gun manufacturer that isn't headquartered or has their primary operations in Anti-Gun Blue East Coast States.

I think the only "biggies" are Remington & Glock - in Georgia...

OI, Remington still has a fairly large manufacturing plant in Ilion NY, just off Exit 30 of the NYS Thruway. Though, I can't fathom how the deuce Henry could stand manufacturing their weapons in Brooklyn.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but this is kind of sad. One of the big reasons I bought my Henry was that it was kind of a poke back at the City of New York to buy a gun made there. I wonder how much the mayor of NYC has to do with Henry moving?
