That is perhaps one of the most amazing and cool headed things that I've ever seen.
Thanks for sharing that.

Doesn't quite look real to me.
... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.

The portion between where the plane returns to the frame til the time the plane turns off the runway and stops look like a model to me.

This thing has been all over every forum board on the internet for about a week. It is indeed a fake, but a good one. http://www.reggiepaulk.com/2008/10/kill ... -with.html

Notice that no other bits fly off when the wing is lost. Notice that the wing falls down with no inertia of its own to keep moving in the same direction as the plane. Notice that the control surfaces are not moving at any time. Notice that the "airplane" goes from traveling at a very high rate of speed to a virtual stop in a space of about 15 feet and in less than a second. Notice that no grass is thrown up at impact nor is the grass disturbed as the plane rolls over it and the tail skid drags on the grass. Notice that the cameraman can keep the airplane perfectly centered as it lands on the ground. There are probably more.TedH wrote:What leads you to believe it's not authentic?

Kirkwood is indeed correct. I saw none of the drastic movements from the rudder or remaining aileron that would result from an attempt to recover the aircraft. It's been a few years since flight school but I seem to recall that a plane that loses a wing will tend to spin uncontrollably in the same direction as the prop. The pilot wouldn't be able to do anything other than tag along for the ride. Another thing I noticed was the clean break at the wing root. A catastrophic failure like that would tear up the skin and leave the control and electrical cables hanging out. Plus I see no indication of a wing spar in that break.
And I don't care how experienced the pilot is, NO plane could make a landing like that missing a wing. I've seen some short landings out of specially equipped Super Cubs, but nothing like this. Maybe in Hollywood.
Just good imagination and Photoshop skills here....

Actually it has happened. An Israeli pilot lost the entire starboard wing from an F-15 or F-16, I forget which, and made a safe landing. Flew it some distance to get it home too.And I don't care how experienced the pilot is, NO plane could make a landing like that missing a wing.
