Kansas Youth Pheasant Hunt

Post by horsesoldier03 »

I took my daughter on the KDWP sponsored Pheasant Hunt today. She missed her first opportunity at a Pheasant but got the second. She took it in flight at about 25 yards.

You know Nath I was shocked that no one had Spaniels at the hunt. Only breeds represented were Labs, German Shorthair and Wienhimer (not sure on spelling), if your ever in the neighborhood we would be glad to let your dog hunt. My daughter was shooting a shotgun I bought her once she expressed intrest in Pheasant hunting. I didnt feel her SXS Stoeger .410 would meet the challenge. I recently picked up an old but clean 20 ga. Mossberg 500C (Pre Serial #) for $140 out the door. The load was Federal #6 heavy field load. It did a great job taking the bird out at about 25 yrds.

.........and THAT, gentlemen, is why I'm a hunter safety instructor! If nobody would have done it when I was a kid, I'd have not been able to hunt legally. When my boy came of age, I figured someone oughta be teaching these classes. The I ralised ....hey, I'm someone! Seeing these kids having this much fun makes it all worth it!

FYI: Hunter Ed. instructors get a discount from most firearms makers, Cabelas, and several other companies. We get rifles from Savage for wholesale price. (Only one a year)
