Do any of you guys load above 35grains?
I think I'm getting my trapper to behave now and the new seating die seems much better but, at 34 grains I get the odd flattened primer and that shot goes high.
I will try 35grain to see if I can get it to be more consistant.

I would go to 33 gr. and work up in tenths of a grain.

I've been there big H but it shot poor. I crept up half a grain at a time to 34 1/2grn and still no trouble sign.
This was when I was having other issues but now feel those are sorted so now I can experiment with the load more conclusive now.

Depending on the bullet, mine likes 32.5 grains of H4895 behind a 170 FN.

Speer and Sierra show nothing above 31.7 gr. - so I wouldn't be anywhere near 34. We want you safe there Nath. That is IMR. I see Hodgdon goes to 34 but where there is a divergence in the major manuals I tread lightly. I would believe the pressure signs for your rifle.

34 grains with Sierra 150 is max that I find. That gives pretty high velocity. Given your primer results, I'd back off and work up slowly testing for accuracy - sounds like your on the edge and getting some variences that put the pressure up. I'm not familiar with this powder -if its a ball or spherical powder, I'd try going down a bit more and try using some magnum primers. That may give you a bit better consistency. Never mind this if its a stick powder.

Sorry guys this is for 150grners.
It don't seem to be showing any pressure sign, when I say the odd primer was flatter I don't mean dangerously flat. I just thought if I can get them the same as each other this should tighten things up.

Nearly all my loads for various cartridges have ended up above book before good things happened.

Do you know what, I'm going of 150grners and the sooner they are gone the better. I just think that 170grn being longer will just leave the case a bit better somehow.

Hodgen Manual # 27 states 30-30 150 gr fn max load 34 grains of H4895 at 36,700 CUP

I use 34 gr of H4895 behind a 170gr for my 32 special trapper. That was Ken Waters best load for the 32 special and it works well.

Uh-oh, Nath. It's never a good idea to increase the powder charge after experiencing "flattened primers" - ergo, the above recommendations to reduce your loads & work slowly back up.

That goes "double", for a relatively "springy" Model 94 action.

If this is a dumb question or OT from the original post, please ignore. What do you guys mean, flattened primers? I get somewhat flattened primers on nearly all my 356 Win. loads whether they are factory or reloads. Any healthy(not near max mind you, but full power rifle loads) get flattened primers for me. Same with my 44's in my Super Blackhawk. Isn't a flattened primer a difficult, if not even futile way to read pressure?
