OT My brothers first shots at birds.

Post by Nath »

My bro took his first shots at pheasant, ducks and pigeon this afternoon after work.
Here he is with his first pheasant,
Image
He recently got his shotgun cert and a couple of weeks ago we went and found a gun that fits him, out of the few he chose this browning B80 ally receiver. It's like new with four I think chokes.
He missed some duck but went on to shoot another three pheasant that tia and I worked up for him.
His new name is "dead eye dick"!
I took my M/L and got a hen bird and a pigeon, I missed a few my self.
For a first time out he done good, I'm very impressed :D

Tia was a bit stubborn at first today but started to listen eventually. She cut her tongue that bled some just before the photo and I fear it robbed her good nose for a while, she is to fast and knocks her self about a bit but I hope in her third year she will steady up some.
Her nose came in good later on and made a good retrieve on a running hen, she pushed a hen over my bro and he got the bird going away very fast at 30 plus yds. I just noticed a wing go up before losing site and he said he heard it come down. I asked him to stay put and mark it whilst I got Tia on it. When I got in the zone she soon had her nose down and following a line and 50yds on I heard the hen as she grabbed it, good girl.
My bro has never seen a dog working before and I think he really enjoyed that aspect too.

I know that feeling when you hunt with family, wish my dad and brother were still here to hunt with. Sure glad you could enjoy it with him and he took to it real good too.

Sounds good all the way around. I too always enjoy hearing more of the ongoing stories of Tia the Wonderdog. Looking at her reminds me of a dog we had named Pepper. I swear I think that dog could talk sometimes. When quail hunting if you missed a bird on a flush she would actually turn and look at you with a dirty look. If you did it again the dirty look became an intense stare as if to say, "you're the one that's messing up here ya know, I'm doing my part. How about a little effort OK." Ya gotta love them dogs.

Rusty,
I had a cat that lived with me named Two Crows, got her up on the Mescalero Res.
She would hunt carp in the Del Rio Drain, off the Rio Grande with me.
Same thing, if you missed; you got the look; you missed again , you got a verbal response.

That's really great news, the more Brits that take up shooting the better!
I don't think your brother could find a better coach either. :D I bet he will soon want his own dog after watching Tia work.

GK. He is not a dog person so I would be really shocked if he did! But you never know!

If there is one thing I have got to get across it's safety. My bro has this thing for carrying his Browning muzzle down even shouldered! I keep telling him he will have plenty time and to keep the muzzle up.
The trouble is he does not understand at this stage that should he take a fall a muzzle that is down has a tendancy to swing all roads across the horizon as apposed to one that is pointing up.
I'll get it across somehow, the thing is he's as stubborn as me!

Well done Bro.
