Used Marlin 1894 Cowboy in 38/357 fills a niche

Not the exact gun, but it looks like it. Been looking for a long-barreled 1894 CB in 38/357 for a few years now.

Found a used 24" octagon barreled 1894 Cowboy in 38/357 last week at a semi-local shop. Bright bore, Ballard rifling, slim forend, straight stock, NON-rebounding hammer, no scratches or dings. Really clean rifle.

It forced me to hand over $400 even, in order to claim a spot on the back seat of my Outback wagon.

First gun I bought in a long time; just doing my part to keep the economy going . . .

Noah,
That's a nice 'lil Marlin. Looks a lot like my 1894 Cowboy .45. I think you'll like it.

Oh, the center fire Marlin lever guns don't have the rebounding hammer actions. Only their rim fire lever guns do. It's the Winchester 94AE's that have the rebounding action.

From what I've seen on the web and elsewhere, that's a pretty good price. I'm sure everyone will be waiting on your range report. ;-) If you don't mind me asking, where did you get it?

Nice goin Noah. I have a .44 Cowboy and I think it is one fine shotin iron.

I may be wrong but mine seems to have better than average wood and the fit seems to be a little bit better than your run of the mill 1894.

Congrats Noah, and thank you for doing your civic duty in keeping the economy going. :D

I would have liked to do something similar, but a certain washer and dryer pair decided to quit within a week of one another after a decade of faithful - and almost daily - usage. Thus, my contribution to the economy will be in purchasing appliances. :(

I'm looking forward to your range report a lot more than my "range report"...

Nice! I looked at a Marlin .357 Cowboy myself recently, but it had a companion on the shelf next to it, a.357 1894C with the standard 18" barrel, which is less common around these parts since the CB was introduced. I went back two days later, and bought the 1894C. The CB was gone. If they get another when I have a bit of cash, a CB would be nice, too.
Have Colts, will travel.

Thanks for the comments! I really like the configuration of the long octagonal Cowboy Marlins. I noticed last night that the barrel actually reads "Cowboy Limited." And the receiver is D&T for a receiver sight. I did flip the buckhorn rear sight's white diamond around because it just "blooms" all fuzzy and blocks out the front bead with my eyesight. Flipped around, no problem.

Our dryer died in August, and since we (the bank) own the houses on each side for 'rentals' we usually give them the 'good' (new) appliances, and take the used/rebuilt ones for ourselves.

This summer the dryers gave way faster than rent checks came in, so in our own household, we went back to 'the old fashioned way' - i.e. the clothesline. Thankfully, my wife (genuflex as appropriate) was willing to go without dryer, so I was able to swing the recent .45-70 purchase (I figure President Obama won't outlaw dryers, but will outlaw guns), and we still are using the 20 feet of rope on the balcony vs. the $350 clothes dryer.

Gotta have your priorities, you know!

God save us all.

Noah,
sounds like Miller's. I've been in there a few times, never bought anything. I've heard he won't dicker much. I picked up a 44 mag version at "Guns and Shooting Supplies R Us" a couple of years ago. I like to stop there and Grice's if I'm going through Clearfield. Never seem to make it into Bob's Army and Navy. Enjoy your new "toy".

AJ -

Without hijacking Noah's post too much , isn't it getting a bit cold out to be drying clothes?

I wish we could do the same, but in order to get the kids into a good school system we moved into a neighborhood with a set of community rules. One of these prohibits clotheslines. :(

Oh, and $350 for a dryer? You got away cheap - trust me, the wallet is still smarting over this set (which cost more than my first two cars - combined  )

I replaced Mom's units before she moved. $400-something each for dryer and washer... BEST price I could find in my area.

On the contrary, an outside line will dry clothes at 0 degrees F and lower. The water turns to ice, and the ice sublimes (evaporates directly without becoming liquid) to water vapor. Takes a little longer, but it works. Ask any Amish family member. But wait -- y'all Carolina/Georgia boys don't have many Amish down that-a-ways, do y'all? ;)

Mav: I regularly visit the three shops in Clearfield when in the area. Bob's is worth the extra time to stop, but all three have pretty steep prices on used guns anymore, especially Gripes, er, I mean Grice. About two maybe 2.5 yrs ago most of the area shops in Elk-Clearfield-Jefferson Counties seemed to put used gun prices at 95% of new. Makes finding a bargain harder.
