Ready to hunt again
My uncle owns 600 acres in Delaware Co. NY. I used to hunt a lot, mostly small game. Woodchucks, rabbits, squirrels, we ate what we shot. I used to have a 30-06 bolt action, and a 30-30 lever action, but never used them for hunting. Strictly shotguns. Now that I'm retired, I've been thinking of going after some bigger game. I miss the taste of venison. I live in NY, and the regs are pretty strict here. Any suggestions? Maybe Pennsylvania? Quacky

Quacky,
I have no suggestions about hunting, but I'd like to welcome you to the forum. Many of our members live on the eastern edge of our country. They'll pop in eventually.

Welcome to the fire friend.
I don't know much about hunting in the north east, but I do encourage you to get out into the woods again.

Really Baby, I swear that it just followed me home.

Thanks for rollin' out the welcome mat. My gal cuz, Cathy (still on the land), emailed me "The mountains miss you cousin, how about paying them a visit?" It's been 30 years, but I'd feel naked up there without a gun. Just poppin off a few crows with a .410 sounds like heaven to me.

Re: Ready to hunt again
Welcome, Just dust off that old shotgun, get you some slugs and go get Um. I don't know much about the laws up there, but if it's like where my brother lives in Iowa you can only hunt with shotguns and muzzle loaders. A shot gun with slugs would do just fine if deer is what you want. You can always hunt on government land in about any state but will have to get a hunter safety card and pay as a non-resident. Price is double.

I have a place in Roxbury, NY also in Delaware County. It is accessed through Margaretville near Big Red Kill. You can use rifles there, and there is an abundance of deer. The population happens to be on the upswing right now. The woodchucks and groundhogs seem to be down however. I didn't hunt spring or fall this year because I moved. Look into the area where your relatives have property. It is in a very good area. The antlerless tags are probably going to be in the 4 area, 4J 4B, etc is around there. While the antlerless tags are limited, it varies greatly from one DMU to the next. Good Luck!
