The Boss gave me the afternoon off! So off to the Range!!!

Post by 2ndovc »

The Boss gave me the afternoon off for being such a good boy.

Got home and grabbed a couple rifles and off to the range.

First up was a 1954 vintage Winchester 94/ 30-30 that I "liberated" from
my Dad's collection. He bought around 1964 and shot it once! It's about 99% perfect.
He's a dedicated bolt gun guy. I think i got my love of lever guns from my Grandfather.

Anyway. Got about 2" groups at 50 yds with my hand loads and 170 Gr. Winchester Soft points.
I'm sure it will do better than that. First time out with the old Girl.

Next up was my Finn nagant VKT model 39.
I'd made up some loads with a Cast Performance 113 Gr. LFP Gas Check bullet and 10 grs. of Unique.
With the rear sight set at 400 meters it's right on at 50 yds. WHAT a BLAST.
Going to have to make some more of those! :D
@ 2" off hand at 50 yds and no recoil.
Got some nice groups with some S&B 180 gr. soft points. First time out with this ammo.

Last up was just some off hand practice with my 94BB / 444 Marlin.
Love this rifle. Just haven't settled on a load yet.

Haven't got a clue. Was thinking the same thing. Next purchase is going to be a chrono.

2ndovc Great bunch of rifles you have there.. I've been thinking of running CB in my SAKO Finn 39 but a non GC bullet.. BTW Do you shoot it with the nose cap clamp loose or tight? I run mine tight..Back in my 50s when I still could see OK..That thing prolly on avg stayed under 3" @ 100 and from time to time I'd get under 2" and a few 1 inchers even...using 180 gr Sierra Pro Hunters & 4350
