Got my Puma Knife today

Post by pullnshoot25 »

What does one do with these knives? Stash it away and keep it nice? Use it? Sell it? Just curious.

I know what I'd do, I'd stash it. I've stash most of my knives...

Use it. I guess - it's a fighting knife, so it'd be for carrying on your belt when you might need a knife for defense.

I personally like to "project" myself when in defense mode and therefore choose a gun.

My knives are all purpose driven - kitchen knives, skinning knives, etc.

I carry a 3" Ken Onion with me in my pocket - multi purpose

That is a very nice knife. Where can I get one?

What to do with it. Stash it where you can get to it should an intruder intrude and you've either run out of shots or can't take one. That thing could really ruin someones intentions. Or, you could sell it to me.

A few thoughts...use it as a:

- camp knife
- pig sticker
- last resort bear deterrent
- accessory to a CAS outfit
- Crocodile Dundee mode in the ***, in case a street rat threatens you with a pocket knife
- Wall decoration with your lever gun
- something to practice your knife sharpening skills on
- an experiment, as in, replacing the wood handle with stag
- etc.

IIRC it was a freebie that came with buying a Puma rifle.

Oh! So it's not a Puma knife, it's a "Puma" knife. I actually thought it was made by the Puma knife company. No wonder I couldn't find it when I put "Puma bowie knife" in the search window. Thanks for the straight up.

So, who makes this knife. It is the old Western Bowie pattern, but Western's dead, so is Camillus; so who does that leave except some Chinaman using the leaf springs off an old Yugo.

I used to buy and sell the old Western Bowies. Most of them went for $25 if you could talk someone into buying it. I sure wish I had them all back (along with those old 25-20 Winchester 92s and pre-64 Winchester model 70s).

O.I. guessed the maker right I think.

Got one several years back when I got the LSI .454.

Kept it under the seat of the truck. I did use it one cold and snowy night to part out a moose that forgot to look both ways. Held an edge ok for what it is. Hard to loose in deep snow so that is a plus. Kind of one of those novelty things I am thinkin and doubt it would take on value like a Randall.

Mine is still under the seat of the p/u by the way. Usable storage item.

I have a bowie knife I made, made it from the leaf spring of a Chevy 3/4 ton truck ( good steel, in case you wondered )
Made it to ABA specs for a bowie knife.
Had a blacksmith compliment me on the workmanship ( made me feel good )
Made to exacting ABA specs, it is light for the size, well balanced, lighting quick, sharp, and holds an edge.
It's old companion was a .41 Mag. it's new companion is a .44 Mag.
I like practical things.

Used to play that game.
I'm the winner when I pull the knife outta my shoe (Steel cold against toes)
This happened in high school, friend looked at me kinda funny, I just reached
down and pulled it outta my shoe, looked up at him and said "My turn".
I never saw him run so fast in his life.

I keep my big bowie in arms reach of the front door (always locked and we
live in a decent neighborhood).

How long did it take them to ship your knife? I bought a Puma Rifle and sent in for the free knife about 4 weeks ago.
