OT - For those of you fond of the 03A3

Post by jdad »

I'm glad I don't collect military rifles. This one is going to attract a lot of interest.

Only one problem with that gun. It is in such good shape I would be afraid to shoot it and I dont buy anything I wont shoot.

A friend sold one in better shape with Elmer Keith's cartouche for $500, 8 months ago. I didn't have the money but he had a buyer and wanted it sold right then. Of course he had a buyer at that price! Yes, I would have shot it.

Oh... that is pretty.

I'd shoot it, but I probably wouldn't use it for ED&C practice...

I've always wanted an O3-A3. Never had the money to buy one.

I have almost the same exact rifle - two groove Remington. I really like the A3 version as its a rifle that I can shoot forever basically due to the aperture sights.

I've also got a 1917 Eddystone - quite a bit heavier but also has good sights.

Welll, it is probably unissued since the rebuild, but it has been to Ogden Arsenal (Utah) for a rebuild. To my simple mind, an unissued rifle is one that has not been issued from the original manufacture. I have one that is identical in that it was unissued since an Odgen rebuild and I got it free as a gift in 1982. It is a Remington with a 4 groove barrel and I shoot it frequently. Fine rifles those.

I'm not a fan of military guns, but that's a beauty. I'll be surprised if it doesn't close before the auction ends.

I thought that. I had one exactly like it with the OG mark and thought that was a rebuild cartouche. Sold it last month for 5 tanks of gas

I've got an 03A3 MK1 that BUBBA sporterized a little (removed rear sight, put a Marbels rear sight on it and a Bishop stock that had been shortened a little). It is a shooter. Couple other guys with 06's cant keep up with it (course I hand load). Belonged to a friend of mine's step dad and when he passed away my friend asked if I would give him $200.00 for it. Almost hurt myself getting my wallet out.

Wow that is a nice rifle!
What is a fair price for a fairly clean used one go for?

A fair price for a minty 03A3 in my part of the world runs from $600 to $800 depending on all of the variable, most important of which is who is buying and who is selling.

It has one punch mark under the serial number indicating it has been rebuilt or rebarreled. Could be wrong, but I think I'm right.

I have it's slightly younger (serial number) brother. Made the same month and even the same inspector (Lt. Col Frank J. Atwood). Glad I don't have the money or there would be a family reunion. :)

Very nice example of a WWII issued 03A3. Spent all my cash on stocks last Friday, guess I'll have to console myself with the 33% of return on my GM I bought Friday for $4.89 a share or the $3.00 a share increase in the GE stock bought Friday, or the 20% increase in the Citigroup stock since Friday. Otherwise I could've had that 03A3 right next to that '76 I was ponder'n.

I bought one back in the late 50s . In new condition. Didn't even have any cosmaline to clean off. Cost me 9.00 dollars for the rifle and 10.00 dollars to ship it to me in a long wooden box .About 6 months to recieve it. I want to say CMP , the program to entice youth and adults alike to get in to the shooting sports . We were told then that every American needed to know how to handle a rifle. As you may recall , our country had just come through WII and the Korean mess. Any how, it was a very fine rifle. Shame I had to sell it down the line..................................MUTT
