OT-caring for OLD leather?

Post by SmokeEater2 »

I know some of You will have the answer for this question. I have some items that belonged to my great-grandfather who was a calvaryman and brought some of his issue stuff home such as saddlebags and the like as well as a very old saddle that belonged to my grandfather (I learned to ride on this one :) ) and I'd like to find the best stuff to condition it with as some of it's getting a little dry from being in a tack room for so many years.
So,from experience what has worked for you on old antique leather items?

Thanks in advance, Allen

Lexol--------we use it on all of our horse stuff, gun stuff, and boots. It conditions without making it soft or soggy like oil based products do. Its not a water repellent, just a conditioner. My good friend Dennis Yoder, of "Yoder Custom Leather" highly recommends it.-------------Sixgun

Pecard's is an excellent conditiioner. There's also saddle butter and Skidmore's cream. You can find them here; http://www.lostbuckaroo.com/products.asp?id=30
