Marlin chambers
Do they tend to run a little tighter the Winchester and Mossberg. My limited Experience seems to be bearing this out-I set my dies so they would work in my old Marlin but just reloaded some shells to give my neighbor ( he is learning to hunt and shoot ) but only one would chamber in his marlin.Just wondered what any one else has seen with this?

Re: Marlin chambers
model55,
I can do a direct comparison on two of my lever guns. My Marlin 1894 Cowboy and my Winchester 94AE Trapper, both in .45 Colt.
Both have generous chambers. So does my OM Ruger BH.
So, I full size all my ammo of that caliber so I don't worry about it.
Every gun is an individual. Your gun could have a larger chamber than your neighbors. For that reason you should full length the ammo.

Re: Marlin chambers
My problem is with 30-30 and for some reason it seems to be an on going thing as well.My dies are hornady so I think they okay I just need to get them more dialed in.If I take My time everthing is fine-if I get a little rushed thing start getting crushed / case shoulders and necks. You are right about ever gun being different I guess I thought I done as far as adjustments go so but not to be.

Do you trim your cases to all the same length ?model55 wrote:My problem is with 30-30 and for some reason it seems to be an on going thing as well.My dies are hornady so I think they okay I just need to get them more dialed in.If I take My time everthing is fine-if I get a little rushed thing start getting crushed / case shoulders and necks. You are right about ever gun being different I guess I thought I done as far as adjustments go so but not to be.
I have most of my problems when reloading from cases that need to be trimmed ! And they do what you are talking about when cases are of different lengths .
Now let it be said that I personally think case trimming is without a doubt the WORST part of reloading and or casting . However with a 30-30 or 32 Special it IS a necessary evil .
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !

Yep case trimming is about as much fun as shelling walnuts, but some times ya just have to do things to go from point a to point b. Darn it!

Re: Marlin chambers
On the subject of Marlin chambers, they certainly do not finish them as well as they used to, the cases from both my 1895 45-70's show the chamber machining marks after firing. Does not happen on any of my older Marlins.

Re: Marlin chambers
I've seen a couple of Marlin Chambers movies.
Not much a plot, but she sure could "act".

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Re: Marlin chambers
When I load ammo that will be used in several guns of the same caliber. I check the brass to make sure it is shorter than the maximum case length as listed in the load manual, then I set my full length sizing die tight against the shell holder when the presses ram is all the way up. This will give the maximum amount that die will resize a case.
Unless the die is defective this should produce a safe minimum size case that will chamber in any rifle. Have fun!

But neither of these are blonde........
Re: Marlin chambers
I guess that is more then likely true!
Chuck I've never tried running the die all the way down I'll have to give that a look.
