OK Levergunners, I'd appreciate your input on this! I'm ready to order a mold for my Marlin 1894, I've pretty well settled on a Lyman #429421 - a plain base 245 gr SWC design. I'm still considering the 240 gr RF nose design, but it has a beveled base. I've had really good luck with BB bullets in the past but I would like to go with a flat base this time. I think. So, the question to those who use this bullet (429421) - Do you have any feeding problems? I'm using a SWC now, sometimes it hangs up on the bullet shoulder while loading. Are you satisfied with it's performance in your carbines? Let me know what you think!
I shoot a 240 gr. SWC in my two Rossi's. A 44mag. and a 44-40. Both feed the SWC just fine. Buy the flat base mold not the bevel based. The BB tends to lead at the leade of the chamber of the barrel chamber. If you drive the bullet much over 1000fps.
I had a Marlin 94CB 44 and it would not feed the SWC's well. Marlin's like a truncated flat point or round nose the best.
