Winchester Penetration Data

I did a little Excel work last night, and finally figured out how to get this to load....but below are the penetration tests from Winchester around the turn of the century. Mediums were 7/8" pine boards, and the figures represent the number of boards penetrated. Interesting some of the conclusions that can be drawn from this....Enjoy...

A full metal jacketed 270 Win penetrated 90 7/8 pine boards? :shock: That's a little hard to believe.

Its amazing how things can penetrate.I used too buy those Norinco steel core 7.62-39 for 2 bucks a box in the 90s
and was testing them.Couldnt get them too stop in 32 inches of phone books ply wood backer and a nice hole in
a tire sidewall.My 7mm mag only went 10-12 inches...I wish I could get more of them.
What in the wild world of sports is going on here

There is a big difference between penetration in dry Pine boards and full water jugs. The fast FMJ bullets don't do near as well with the jugs but the slow, heavy, blunt nose bullets do much better.

Those were some rounds! Would go through 3/8" steel plate like a drill bit!

They go through ballistic vests like butter too. That's why no more.
