Who wanted to konw about home shop color case hardening?

Post by jdad »

A while ago someone was asking about setting up a crucible at home. I finally remember where this fantastic thread was. Jim D does fantastic work in his shop. He documents the entire process form the early experiments to the somewhat perfected process. If you've wanted to know how it's done and why you want to let someone else do it :D ...............

I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Great thread ... takes a while to read it all of the way through though.

Absolutely! It's time well spent to read through it all. Jim has spent a lot of hours (years!) perfecting the process, and after seeing what it takes, I decided I don't have the time until I'm retired! :D Jim is a perfectionist, and a good friend. I was lucky enough to have Jim redo the bluing and casehardening on my 1891 Marlin project. It's one of my favorite shooters!-Vall

I love those old Marlin rimfires. I really need an 1897 with those classic case colors.

The article was really great. When he got to the proper aeration he really hit the mark.
