OT - Stock Finish

I'm looking to redo a walnut stock I have. I've got the old finish stripped off and everything is sanded down ready to go. I'd like a deep dark oil finish with something that is easy to get good results with like TruOil, except without the shiny TruOil-Browning wood look. Any ideas on what to use or how to finish this stock?

Use the Tru-oil until all the pores/grain is filled, then rub the last coat down to remove the gloss with OOOO steel wool pads & wax it with a good paste wax.

I use SIMONIZE NEW CAR WAX, but Johnson's Paste Wax is good, too.

I have used Birchwood Casey Stock Conditioner (I think that is the name) It is a product that you can put on the glossy Brownings and Remingtons to reduce shine. It works great after about 15 coats of Tru-Oil as well.

I've tried everything I think. The best for a nice hand rubbed oil look was Permalyn Sealer from Brownells, but at $24 for a pint I decided to look around. After several more tries I finally settled on MinnWax Wipe-On Poly.(satin) It gives me the exact finish I wanted, and the results are not only nice, but it covers over almost any previous finish! Some finishes will never dry, or have a reaction to remnants of old finish, but Permalyn and Wipe-On Poly both cover well without that problem.
Since W-OP is extremely thin, it takes a number of coats to do. That also makes it easy to control the sheen. I wet sand the first few coats on, in order to fill the pores with the sanding particles. After wet sanding 3-4 coats, I then just apply it with a rag and wipe the excess off. Sand after each coat dries, and when it gets to looking good I stop.
At the end I hand rub the wood with Behlens Master Finish Rub, which makes a glassy smooth finish that wont be shiny like a Browning. This stock was done with W-OP:
