OT - I'm excited (rimfire non-lever)

Post by bsaride »

Well the neice and I have been going to the indoor range for about 3-4 months.
She started out on the first trip shooting scoped 10/22, iron sighted M39 and
my vintage target rifle Winchester M52 from 1929 (heavy). She liked the M52
the best and had her shooting from a seated position so she can use the stall
at the indoor range as a rest. She knew that with a left dominant eye that she
should shoot left handed and she has been shooting left handed from day one.
two months ago I bought a Savage Mark-II GL, left handed sporter rifle weighs
about 5 lbs, big difference from the heavy target gun. I mounted a vintage
Redfield Sharpshooter 22 sight (1968-1972) to the receiver grooves, bought
extra 5 round magazines, high bipod, case, sling, globe front sight with level.
Any how she is very happy with this setup (I'm glad cuz I put $700 into the
outfit with $209 baseline rifle), shoots it very well from a rest hence the bipod
for hunting rabbits. We just got back from the indoor range and this busy
high schooler said she will be able to take a day off next sunday to go on her
first rabbit hunt. It rained yesterday and was nice today. I told her "we are a go
for next sunday rain or shine." She said "What if it rains?" I said "Then you are
gonna get wet!"

Any how just wanted to share the good news on bringing in a new hunter
(She is 16) from Southern California!

Those Savage MkIIs are sweet little rifles. I bought one for my oldest stepson who is mildly Autistic.
He can't remember how to work the 10/22s that we have but the Savage he shoots like it was as
natural as breathing.

Good times :D

That's awesome BSARIDE! There is nothing as pleasing as passing on a firearm to a new recipient and then seeing them learn and grow with it. Good going!
