My little brainstorm

Post by jnyork »

I recently scored a very nice old Redfield spotting scope off fleabay and wanted a way to protect it from being all scratched and damaged from being carried around in my shooting range box. After a little thought, I was inspired to make this carrying pouch out of an el Cheapo nylon/cordura (?)padded rifle case, I think I paid a buck for it at a yard sale somewhere.

I simply cut off the small end and got my Lovely Bride to sew it up. Works great, well padded, zips up, just right for the job. If you decide you want to do this, be SURE the guncase is UNZIPPED all the way before you cut it so you still have the zipper function. Cut the case about 3-4 inches longer that the spotting scope.

And, you can still use the REST of the yard sale case for a take-down shotgun or rifle ! ;) ;) :P :P

Good solution to your dilema. I like fixing things myself too.

There is one available that stays on the scope and has little velcro windows that you open to screw onto the tripod, and has a zipper for and aft for access as well. $35 from Champion's Choice.

This one shown is for a 45 degree eyepiece, but that order number is for a straight scope.

I have one on my scope and it still looks like the day I pulled it out of the box - 15 years ago...
