Went looking for elk ahorseback today in the Cabinets Mtns took the wife & dog. danny
Saddling up

Riding a gated road

Dog is looking uphill at a herd of elk going thru timber one cow came across road I wasnt quick enough with the camera, I take the heeler along hes handy to have if I run into bears or moose he keeps them entertainted till I can sort things out

Flower Peak Lake only water around for a couple miles for the critters

Hanging Valley and Sky Lakes drainage

Back in the pasture,Iam horse poor

I have the same problem with my pasture . Horse poor , and it means what it says with the annual cost of wormer ,shots,feed, etc.... I don't have time to ride them all. I always talk about thinning the herd , but it doesn't seem to happen.

Looks like a great day for riding even if you didn't spot much for elk. :)

I hope that by the time you get the sights put on a rib cage, you guys have more material covering those bare arms. I hate to hunt in warm weather, pretty hard to cool off the meat. Sure pretty country around your neck of the woods.

Bigsky56,I always enjoy Your pics of that beautiful country You live in. Looks like a good scouting trip and a day spent on a good horse is just hard to beat. Thanks for posting the pics! :D

I will wait till I have a tracking snow then get after a meat bull in this area I have been watching a couple of raghorns for 2 months now that haunt this area. NW Montana has different areas from steep black timber to rolling hills sagebrush all within 3 hrs of my place. danny
