.44mag

Post by mescalero1 »

I have been waiting two weeks to make this post.
Years ago I latched on to a Marlin 1894 receiver & barrel, .44 Mag
can't remember where or how much I paid for it.
Two weeks ago I was watching this 1894 Marlin.44 Mag. on gunbroker, parts set, (everything except receiver ) it went thru three, three day cycles, no bids.
So I sent the guy an email offering him less than the asking price, he accepted after 1 day of thinking about it.
I now have a complete .44mag Marlin, just have to put it together.
I promised myself I would not say anything here untill I had the parts. They came today
I done good.

Congrats. The Marlin .44 is one of my favorite rifles. Hopes yours 'comes together" well.

I had been watching the same item myself, but just couldn't seem to justify paying the price he was asking. Anyway, I'm glad someone here was able to rescue those parts. It'd be ashame to just see thme not being used. :D

Meanc,
Before you buy, ask questions; the barrel has marks from a PIPE wrench used to take the barrel off. I can stone them out and cold blue.
But still, this not the way to do this.

I did NOT pay what he was asking
I understood that from your first post

And I'm very glad you didn't have to. I was going to offer lower, but I was just eyeballing it for the wood set and the forearm tip/tenon and screws. I doubt he would have accepted what I would have offered just for those items.

Anyway, now you're just going to have to show us pics of it completed.

Take some before, during, and after pictures. If you still can't post them, e-mail them to me and I will post them for you - or send back the links so you can do so.

Sounds like a sweet deal. I have a pre-safety 1894 in .44 Mag and love it! Congrats! :D

OK will do, one more thing; the forearm is slim and it has a cap on the end of the forearm.
Marlin guys, does this help identify the doner gun?

Mescalaro, Marlin has usually used a forearm cap even on the carbines. It looks dumb to me but mine was accurate. They did make carbines with 2 barrel bands for a couple of years but went back to the old system. Don't know why. They have also produced a sporter carbine with 3/4 mag and using the same forearm cap but no forward band. I think only about 2000 of those were made, maybe less (dang CRS).
Sincerely,

Hobie

It looks like you will have fun putting something together which you can then use. Better than a crossword puzzle to me.

CONGRATULATIONS, can't wait to see the finished pics.

I have a Marlin 1894 in .44Mag. It was the last gun that my dad ever gave to me. He picked it up at First Monday in Canton, Texas back in 1991 for $125. I tried to pay him but he wouldnt take my money.
