"Breaking in" a barrel?

Post by Slick13 »

How many here follow the shoot one and clean idea of breaking in a barrel? I've got a buddy who's big into it and says it's a must, and I should do it with my new Savage 114. The only other new rifle in my life is my .25-35 carbine I bought a couple years ago. I didn't break it in, and it shoots just fine.

Many of the various makers will have their thoughts and beliefs right on their respective web page. Try Pac-Nor barrels, Hart Barrels and Shilen and see what they recommend for their barrels. Your barrel may or may not be an aftermarket job but you will at least see their reasoning. 1886.

Sure, I break my lever barrels in... one bullet at a time with no rhyme or reason to it.
...and I don't think he even knows it...Walks around with a half-assed grin...If he feels fear, he don't show it. Just rides into hell and back again.

Unless you are a BE or varmit shooter, it will not be worth your time. I shoot lead in most of my rifle's and have my own procedure for breaking in a barrel so lead my be shot properly & accurate. I also do the same with my Revolvers.

It does make a difference if you are to get the best accuracy from your firearm.

There can be a difference if you do it.
