Another Ghost Ring Question
I put on a set of AO Ghost Ring sights on an older Marlin 336 and with the rear sight adjusted all the way down, it still shoots 7-9 inches high at 100 yards. E-mailed AO today, won't get a response till Monday, most likely. Anyone run in to this, it is new to me. I fired factory 150 and 170 grain jacketed and cast 150, 170 and 190 grains today, totalling about 140 rounds, all with similar results.

Re: Another Ghost Ring Question
reo,
The XS Ghost Ring sights sit higher than the factory sights. You'll need a taller front sight to compensate for that.

I bought the set that came with the taller front sight and it is installed, it's still not working.

Re: Another Ghost Ring Question
Have somebody else shoot the gun to verify (yeah, it happens) and if so get a TALLER front sight.
FWIW, this is one reason I like the Williams Foolproof.

Yes, I know EXACTLY what you're talkin about. Getcha a .530" Marbles 1/16" gold bead blade site and install. Brownells has em.
That'll do it.
I use an "on" hold BTW - that is, the dot placement is the point of impact if you get my drift.
Here's a pic of my 336/.356 Winchester with that set-up:

Re: Another Ghost Ring Question
I ran into this problem with a Marlin M9 carbine. The front sight was getting ridiculously high. I had my son in law mill a few thoudsanths off the bottom of the rear sight, being sure to leave enough metal for good screw head contact, this worked out ok. You may also have to shorten the base screws a bit so's they don't protrude into the receiver too far......

Re: Another Ghost Ring Question
I know the answer, but I'll ask anyway. Sorry. You are looking through the ring, not over it, right? I've had more than one person with no experience with apertures look over the ring.
Kind regards,

Re: Another Ghost Ring Question
It makes no difference, to have someone else shoot it as a check - after all, YOU'RE gonna be the one it'll have to be zeroed for, when you take it shooting/hunting.
Everyone's shooting style is a bit different, and many don't use a peep properly or the same way (although they should ).
XS can send you a plastic trial front post that's extra-high - which is put on the gun, shot with (at 100yds), and cut down if/as necessary.
If you send the correct height plastic post back with the one that came in your set, they will exchange it for another whiteline of the same height as the plastic post.
They've been excellent, like that.

Re: Another Ghost Ring Question
I see no point in having someone else shooting your rifle, unless you are going to have that person do you shooting and hunting for you. You rifle needs to shoot to the point of aim for you.
XS will supply you will the correct front sight. They have good customer service. The Marlins has had a number of different front sight set ups over the years and one size won't fit all.

Re: Another Ghost Ring Question
Knowing the inventor of the AO sights, Ashley Emmerson. He always installed mine never had any trouble but he has nothing to do with the company anymore that might be the answer. My 1895 was the test gun for the Ashley sights for the 1895 winchester. Too bad he doesn't have any control over the company anymore.
