Vall,
I just replaced the firing pin (2 piece with spring) on my 1893. When I took it apart there
wasn't a spring in it (spring toggles the rear pin down). When I reassembled it with the spring
in place it seems to me that the firing pin is a little snug and doesn't rectract without pushing
it back. I want to make sure this is correct before I put the rest together and go to the range
tomorrow.
Thanks,
Jay

Re: 1893 Question for Vall
I had the same problem. The lever resets the firing pin when you cycle the action. I have been shooting 2 Marlin's, without the spring, and there has been zero problems.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Re: 1893 Question for Vall
My 1894's firing pin would bind up when the lever was closed. I was told to relieve the tension on the spring to help this. It did to a certain extent. I still had to relieve some metal off the top of the locking bolt to cure it.

Yes, the firing pin spring will cause the rear half to drag a bit, and as jdad said, a lot of them don't have the spring and worked for a very long time without a problem.

OK,
I will look at the spring and see if I can lighten it or just remove it.
On the take down latch, I put a .012 shim in to make a solid rifle,
is this OK or should I hold off and rework the take down latch?

What did you use for shim material? If it's soft like brass, then I'd not use it, but if it's steel shim stock it should be fine.-Vall
