BLR shooters, collectors please

Post by 1886 »

Can someone please give me a brief but thorough run down on the Browning BLR chambered .30-06? Dates of manufacture, options(steel vs. alloy receivers, checkering, etc) and approx. value of same. Thanks much. 1886.

IIRC, there are five versions of .30-06 BLR's:

A) The BLR-81 Long Action, mfg. 1991-1995.

B) The New Model Lightning BLR, mfg. 1995-2002.

C) The BLR Lightweight 81, mfg. 2003- present.

D) The BLR Lightweight Takedown, mfg. 2007- present.

E) The BLR Lt Wt Stainless Takedown, mfg. 2008.

The DOB can be determined fron the letter code in the serial number.

Used .30-06 BLR's usually trade in the $500 range, give/take.

I'm afraid I can't help with which ones had the steel receiver, but I believe it was only the first run - I think this year's stainless guns are alloy w/stainless barrels/levers/etc.
I also believe checkering was standard throughout the run(s).

You can use a magnet to find out if it's steel. Everything after the lightning is alloy. It will say BLR lightning on the barrel. If it just says BLR it should be steel.
