Worked out great.
My Dad made it back to the boat in Trinidad w/o a problem with his
12 Ga in the PVC tube. He used a bicycle cable lock through the holes in
one end.
Thanks for the idea!
Here's part of the email he just sent:
The 12ga is here in the Customs office. I can get it when I leave. It was interesting getting it here. The Cleve. airport was a hoot. Two airport security had to check it and one Cleve. police officer. The one guy with the airport security didn't know what the receiver was. They all wore rubber gloves and acted as if it was covered with some deadly bacteria. One old guy with Customs here in Trini. just looked at it and put it in a safe, come get it when I leave is all he said. No problem here.
The first newspaper I picked up here had headlines that said there were 387 murders so far this year, the most in 28 years. 12 in 5 days. The killed were almost al young men in the low 20's ,pretty sad. Things are quiet here in the marinas though. We will go to Grenada in 2-3 weeks for a while to see some people there
Some of the islands keep the firearms until you leave. Which seems kinda silly but their rules.

I use a hard golf club case with plenty of padding inside.
Discreat way to check your guns (of course you still need to declare....).

He wanted something that he could just toss if necessary. Plus storage space on the boat is a premium.
