OT - Shipping a Muzzleloader to California

Post by deerwhacker444 »

Does anybody know the legalities of shipping a muzzleloader via U.S. Post office person to person. It's my belief that muzzleloaders are not considered firearms and may be shipped non-FFL person to non-FFL person. Is this correct.? I need to ship it from OK to CA.

Ship it via UPS instead of via the U. S. Postal Service.

U.S.P.S. is OK. Muzzle loaders are not regulated by the ATF. Thank God! Person to person is OK. Do NOT mark the shipping box in any way as a firearm per U.S.P.S. regulations. They may ask you what it is, but it is a legal item for them. California does not regulate muzzle loaders - yet!

I ONLY ship firearms vis USPS. The monkeys at UPS will are known to damage longarm packages, no matter how well they are protected.

Some of our vendors ship paintings (rolled) in PVC pipe complete with PVC end caps. UPS has managed to slice through the end of one such, at the point of the greatest total thickness of PVC, and deliver only to be surprised (the driver) that the package was damaged. Not just once, either!

UPS is just my preference.

And I've got news for you guys. If you have a black powder pistol that can be coverted to fire cartridges (i.e. Uberti Remington New Model 58 with a Krist (sp?) Conversion cylinger), it is illegal (at least from California's standpoint) to ship it and the conversion cylinder together person to person.
